Scott being welcomed to the team by Bryan Ewart

Who wouldn’t love to work in a beautiful, exquisitely maintained outdoor paradise? That’s exactly what Scott Graham’s work mornings look like now that he is working at Chilliwack Golf Club. Two mornings a week, Scott arrives at work to prepare his motorized golf cart and spends the next four hours filling divots as part of the Greens & Grounds crew for this beautiful golf club. Surrounded by friendly club members and a fantastic staff, Scott is responsible for ensuring that the tees, fairways, and greens are divot free.

The Chilliwack Golf Club, established in 1958, is a semi-private facility located in the Greendale area. It features magnificent tree lined fairways, a creek that meanders through the back nine and breathtaking mountain vistas in every direction. Members and non members have enjoyed the Fraser Valley’s most popular golf course for over 50 years. With a reputation for world class conditioning (year round), Chilliwack has played host to every major Provincial Championship—and always to rave reviews.

It all started with a friendly conversation about BRIDGE Youth Employment Service during a fair at the TRADEX, and a wonderful partnership was born. A few months after meeting with Laura Taylor, who coordinates Events at the Club, BRIDGE staff was contacted by Bryan Ewart, General Manager. Bryan is an ideas man, and was excited to have a fantastic opportunity for the right person. Bryan was looking for someone interested in working part time, outside, who would have pride in working hard, and add to the Chilliwack Golf Club staff. When he met with Scott a week later to discuss the position, he was happy to have found the perfect employee to join the team.

Bryan (pictured above right, with Scott, left) provided Scott with a uniform shirt, hat and name tag, and introduced him to the grounds team including Duane and Bill, who have both shown him the ropes. Bryan took his welcoming of Scott one step further by sending out an email to all of club membership, introducing Scott and his Job Coach to the members, and asking them to give him a wave as he works to ensure the quality of the course. In his first two weeks at the Club, Scott has met several of the members, including the club captain, and has expressed that Chilliwack Golf Club is the best place to work. Scott is proud to talk about his job, and show off his uniform, and looks forward to his shifts. Congratulations to Scott and Chilliwack Golf Club for building such a great partnership!
